Laurence Hawkins. ND.Fo.Arb. (Triple dist.) ISA - Aboricultural Association Member
From the time I could first walk, my parents tell me I was always climbing trees.
Looking back, perhaps I was always destined to be a tree surgeon. I'm sure some of my old teachers will remember my passion for climbing and their worries for my safety! After leaving secondary school I continued my education at Plumpton College. I really enjoyed my two years there on the National Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture. The course was a good mixture of theory and practical work and I enjoyed my work placement with a tree surgeon based in Eastbourne.
My experience was very varied from work in private gardens, Dutch Elm Disease, forestry work and local council work. During this time I was also able to take many NPTC qualifications. I worked hard and found the time went extremely quickly. In a way I was sad to leave Plumpton but my hard work was also rewarded in other ways. I gained Triple Distinction for my National Diploma course and was awarded the Top Student in Forestry and Arboriculture prize and also the Top overall Further Education Student prize for my year.
Following my successes at college, and due to the lack of job opportunities in the recession, I became self employed and started my own Tree Surgery business and have built up a loyal customer base in the East Sussex area including local councils, schools, international companies and many private and commercial contacts over the last 8 years. I am always committed to a very high standard of work, and the perfectionist characteristics in my personality mean I am very reliable, work hard and pay attention to detail. My business is recognised and approved by the government’s Buy with Confidence scheme and Trading Standards for the last 6 years. The scheme vets, checks, approves and recommends businesses. I hope you may find this background information helpful.
